3 Ways to Add Coziness to Your Home Without the Clutter

Every client I meet emphasizes wanting a comfortable yet clean, clutter free home. Today’s trends in design match this desire. Because who wants clutter? It is a well known fact that clutter causes anxiety. So how do you achieve comfcoziness without clutter?

1. Amp Up the Cozy Texture

The more textiles (fabrics, rugs, draperies, and certain wallcoverings) you put in a room, the cozier it will feel. This is because your eye perceives soft textures as comfort. Also sounds in a room with lots of texture will be dampened, even furthering a warm fuzzy feeling. It’s important not to add texture to an existing room, but to replace things with textured items.

2. Opt for Warm, Grounding Colors

Color is a huge factor in creating comfortable spaces. Go for warm neutrals and earth tones like terracotta, greige, vanilla, evergreen. Again, don’t add things with warm colors, replace existing items, so as to avoid clutter.

3. Evoke Cozy Feelings with Warm Scents

For some, their sense of smell is the most powerful way they perceive their environment. Light candles or use diffusers with essential oils. Go for amber, sandalwood, cinnamon and other spice scents.

To achieve a warm cozy feeling in a room, replace these existing items: toss pillows, curtains, throws, candles, and anything that’s a cool color. When you introduce just a few things with textured, warm colored ones, you’ll feel the cozy difference.
